I was talking to Joel recently regarding our McGoldrick Racing horses, in particular the decision of whether or not we should retire our 11yo star that was Romeo Brown.
A string of injuries has hindered Romeo so much over the last eighteen months, the latest in early May, looked like the time had come and retirement was inevitable.
Having discussed the situation with Joel, I accepted his suggestion that because he had Romeo in such good form, and recovery from his latest injury when falling at Hexham was so quick,Joel believes he’s not quite ready to be retired yet, and instead wants to get him ready to go out with a bang, and end his career over the next 2/3 months with 2/3 chosen races on the decent ground he favours.
Sounds good to me.
Meanwhile, Bazball is well on the way to her first race since 9th April, and looking the best she’s ever been.
Paddy O`Mahler will be back in his box this week after his summer vacation grazing on the moors, with high expectations for the coming NH season beginning with Novice Chasing.
In deeper conversation, Joel told me about a horse named Ryebridge who Harvey bought at Doncaster Sales way back in May 2024.
Turned out on the vast grazing lands at Craiglands Farm for many months, this impressive 5yo Bay gelding by Diamond Boy had his first “blow” over hurdles in April followed by a promising 3rd in June, both over 2mls.
Upped to 2ml 4f however, he was all over the winner at Hexham on 22nd June ……
Until that is, horse and jockey Kavanagh had a difference of opinion at the last hurdle, ending in Ryebridge being beaten by just over a length.
Add to that Joel`s comment that Ryebridge .is a real nice prospect.for us when Romeo Brown hangs up his shoes.
Deal done, RYEBRIDGE will be racing in McGoldrick Racing colours from now on.
