becky the thatcher McGoldrick Racing’s three year old Mastercraftsman filly Becky The Thatcher (4/6f) is a 13 race maiden on the Flat but she wasted no time in getting off the mark over timber this afternoon, sprinting clear after the last to win the juvenile hurdle at Musselburgh on her jumping debut in the hands of Fin O’Toole.

None of her three rivals had previously shown much over hurdles so it’s hard to say what the form is worth, but Becky The Thatcher relished her new challenge, jumping really tidily if a little deliberately on a couple of occasions, she showed that she sees the trip out well and she really couldn’t have pleased us any more.

Making most of the running, she was briefly headed on the turn for home, but was well on top at the finish and kept finding extra whenever Fin asked her for a bit more, putting her Flat speed to excellent use to see off Royal Pearl by two lengths.

The runner up was a rare loser on the day for inspired jockey Brian Hughes, who rode an 899/1 five timer.
