CATTERICK WEDNESDAY 29th JUNE 2016
The frustration continues as our efforts to find the right formula for Becky the Thatcher to win her first race, went sadly amiss.
An analysis of her latest race proves that contradictory to comments made by the jockey of her previous race, now was not the time to step her up in distance from 1ml 4f to 1ml 6f as, in a race run on soft ground, she clearly does not yet…or maybe never will get the trip……on the flat anyway.
Race time was over 14 seconds slower than average, so Becky wasn`t exactly run off her feet.
Winner of this 0-75 hcp was rated 71 …2nd 70….3rd 69 with Becky rated 63 4th of the 5 runners having started the season on a mark of 68.
Therefore its reasonable to assume that because in her work on the gallops, she hadn`t given Micky Hammond any great inkling of hitting peak form, maybe it was too much of an ask for her to compete when…. to quote Timeform, “being given too hard a hard task” against horses rated much superior on all known form.
So, for her next race, we`ve just got to be looking at a 0-65 hcp over a trip between 1ml 2f and 1ml 4f MAX, when, with PJ McDonald on board adopting front running tactics as well, we should just about get it right.
I`m off to look at the fixture list now for a suitable race in approx 2 /3 weeks time.
Keep the faith lads !!!!
