Delusionofgrandeur season off to a steady start

Most members agree that Sue Smith never rushes her horses, and most need one or maybe two races to achieve something like peak fitness.

This was the case when our fella began his season at Wetherby on 2nd Nov `18 over an inadequate distance of 2ml 3.5f in a 0-155 hcp and not surprisingly was sent off at odds of 20-1 and duly finished down the field.

Nearly two weeks later, I quite fancied his chances of running a big race when we sent him to Bangor to race over a more suitable trip (3ml)  this time in a 0 – 150 hcp.

With Jamie Moore on board for the first time, he ran a really good race in finishing 5th in what turned out to be a very hot race.

Apart from being a bit sluggish with his jumping over the first three fences, he knuckled down, jumped well, and was not beaten far, and did enough  to show us he is going the right way.

Indeed jockey Moore told those present he was running just as fast at the end of the race as he was at the start…..we took that as a compliment !!  but was not quite good enough on the day, and he agreed it had been a hot race.

So are we getting nearer to his first success of the season ?

Well an entry has been made for Delboy at Haydock on Sat 24th Nov in a 3ml 1f  in a 0-145 hcp, and having been dropped a further 4lbs by the handicapper after Bangor…now down to 134, assuming he runs, and we get something like  good / soft conditions,   we`ll soon find out.
