Delusionofgrandeur will now go Novice Chasing

becky the thatcher

After a tremendous first season in our McGoldrick Racing silks, Sue Smith, with my agreement, has decided Delusionofgrandeur will not race again this season.

As we all know, especially jockey Danny Cook, Delboys last race at Newcastle on 27th Feb was a race too soon after his excellent performance at Musselburgh twenty days earlier.

He had two hard races on those occasions, and it was clearly evident he was not the same horse at Newcastle.

His form figures for us this season though are    2-1-3-1-3  then 4th on his last run, and if you form students are not aware, have a look at some of the horses he has raced against, and how they have all gone on to frank the solid form with our fella.

He is now rated 140 over hurdles, which was beyond our wildest dreams when we bought him as a potential 3ml chaser, so it wasn`t a difficult decision really to cash in our hurdling chips, give Delboy a nice long back to nature summer break on Harveys moorland, then bring him back with a view to a Novice Chasing campaign next season…….the thought of which is really exciting.

Not just for me either.

Sue has already told us how lucky we are to have such a lovely horse, Danny Cook can`t wait to ride him over fences, he`s in proper good hands up at Craiglands, he`s still a young horse with growing to do, so let him have his break.

And though it seems an awful long time to wait, especially for old giffers like myself who want their jam today, not tomorrow, !!  we all look forward to finding out just what next season has in store for our exciting Novice Chasing prospect Delusionofgrandeur.
