Doncaster Thursday 9th February, the 2-50 race…a qualifier for the 3mls Challenger Series Final at Haydock in April with a £50k pot
Rules stated that to finish in the first eight would be sufficient to qualify
The original eight declared, due to withdrawals, became FOUR , thus a clear round would ensure we would be eligible for the Challenger Final. The theory / plan was looking good.
Alas, thanks to the errant horse he was about to challenge for the lead, who decided…not for the first time, to jump to the left, distracting our fella, who jumped the hurdle ok, but landed seemingly losing concentration due to the horse alongside him, and ended up on the turf, with an Accessory Carpal Bone fracture of the Left Forelimb, and his season became over in those few, tragic seconds.
Veterinary staff were brilliant, and I thank them all for delivering the prompt treatment needed, which, as a result, should ensure Romeo will be racing again, though not this season
Further veterinary inspections and x rays have also given an encouraging prognosis.
So, months ahead though it may be,, Romeos in good hands up at Sue and Harveys, and our popular superstar will be back in action eventually.
He has got quite a few admirers on this website, and thanks to you all for your kind emails and messages.
