EXCELLENT START TO ROMEOS SEASON

NOT the right distance….NOT the ground we wanted, nevertheless the 2 mile Conditional Jockeys hcp Hurdle race on the Wetherby opening meeting of the 22/ 23 season was a sensible choice in order to get our Romeo back into the swing of things without the risk of giving him too hard a time for his comeback race.

Having won before over the distance, we were expecting him to run well, possibly even win the race, whilst at the same time being  mindful of the good to firm ground not helping us one little bit.

RESULT  ?  after leading all the way, and hurdling superbly, we were collared  just TEN yards from the finishing post and beaten a neck and a head.

Whilst it was frustrating at the end….so near yet so far !!  it was very much mission accomplished on the day.

Even better when we heard the news from Sue Smith the following morning, that Romeo was well, and was bucking and kicking and full of himself.

No doubt we will be stepping him up in distance next time, when, hopefully,  we’ll be having yet another photo of members in the winners enclosure to feature on this website.
