Members have decided this will be Fill the Powers last season with us, so before he hands in his notice to Sue Smith, and moves on to new surroundings…..by the way, he would make a superb Hunter Chaser or Point to Point horse for someone out there…..lets hope we can find a couple of races for him to go out on a high.
You don`t see many long distance Chasers like FTP, who has his own, laid back way of racing.
He has surely become one of the hardest rides for a jockey in NH racing today…..Its not been uncommon to see his jockey hard at work, whip and all, and that`s as soon as the the starters flag comes down,!!!
As Danny Cook once said after he dismounted from a valiant, but vain attempt at Carlisle to get FTP`s nose in front, ” look at me, I`m sweating like a pig, and he`s not even blowing.”
“He`ll only win when he wants to, but he certainly wasn`t wanting it today.”
So, dependent on which FTP turns up at Wetherby on Tuesday 21st Feb 2017, now down to a mark of 114, this horse who once ran 5th in a Scottish National, has got to have a decent chance…in theory anyway…of winning the 3ml Chase.
Admittedly, we perhaps haven`t exactly helped his cause by running him SIX times in ten weeks, so now, after a six weeks break, we`re hoping he will be sufficiently freshened up to turn up at Wetherby and provide us with another C and D win.
Got to be worth a few quid EW.
