ITS RAINING WINNERS As Delusion and Becky both win their latest races

becky the thatcher

Due to frustrating WiFi problems involved with the installation of a new faster speed BT hub into my office, I have been unable, until now, to communicate updates on t`internet.

Both BT and Sky struggled to resolve the problem, both blaming each other, but thanks to an intervention from a 3rd party, all is now well.

My wife insists the world should be told who this third party person was, the one who suggested we try the old SKY cure for everything when a problem occurs, namely switch off  power at mains for 30 seconds…switch back on and usually all`s back to normal…..as indeed it was in this case.

The third party was, as I`m sure you`ve guessed ,  Mrs Longley, my beautiful, modest wife !!

Back to business then, and what a week its been for members of McGoldrick Racing.

It began with an excellent victory for Delusionofgrandeur at Catterick Friday 24th Nov in the Class 3 3ml 1f , Go Racing in Yorkshire Hcp Qualifier at odds of 6-4.

Then yesterday Wed 29th Nov at Wetherby, in the class 4 2ml 3f + hcp hurdle, members were ecstatic as Becky the Thatcher, carrying a welter burden of 12 st (less Jockeys 5lb allowance) defied odds of 33-1 to win going away from the 9-4 fav well fancied Skelton horse Away for Slates.

Reports on both races can now be found simply by going to “our horses” page.

In conclusion, its worth stating that since the sad loss of Fill the Power, and the termination of our lease agreement with Starboard Watch due to her under performing on the racecourse, we are currently down to TWO horses on our books.

But what an amazing privilege to have TWO such relatively young horses with such ability that could well develop into both being good enough for consideration in higher grades as the season(s) progresses.

Becky just loves jumping hurdles, and won over two miles. Then, after Catterick earlier this year, it was obvious she would get further….and at Wetherby yesterday, first hurdle race of the season for her, and with nearly 12 st on her back against some very useful types, AND over 2ml 4f..look what happened. !!  An amazing performance to win, supported by an excellent ride from Finian (“I just love Becky) O`Toole.

Where we go from here with her is a matter for discussion with Micky Hammond, but the mares only option seems to be the favourite route right now, and I hope Micky will soon forget his obsession to, at some stage, send her to Pontefract for one of those 2ml 2f races they run there on the flat !!

As for Delusionofgrandeur, he really could turn out to be something special, and thats no exaggeration

Already suggestions from his burgeoning fan club include the Eider Chase at Newcastle, the Final of the Qualifier he won at Catterick last Friday which is a £50k race at Haydock in March`18…plus the North Yorkshire National at Catterick in Jan 2018 if he`s qualified.

Not really had chance since his latest win, to speak to Sue Smith about future options, but for such a talented, genuine, gutsy chaser as our fella, there should be plenty to choose from in the weeks ahead.

Finally,if you`re still awake,  from this humble syndicate owners point of view, I`m just so made up for my small but  dedicated and loyal group of members, a better and more enthusiastic bunch it would be very hard to find. Thanks guys.

Richard

PS  I am hopeful there will be another young NH prospect purchased before too long to add to to our existing two horses, and provisional orders from new / existing members based on a minimum 10% ownership share, stands at 70%

I would welcome any new enquiries providing your interest in horse racing is mainly National Hunt, and you think you could perhaps  gel with this lot below…photo taken of four hardy McGoldrick Racing members at Musselburgh on a freezing windy winters afternoon last year, after Delusionofgrandeur ran a blinder to give us all a taste of what was to come.

Great lads…..Great craic

jolly boys
