... shared racehorse ownership at its best ...

JANUARY 2022 UPDATE

My last update was way back in September 2021.   I accept my followers are relatively few compared to the likes of Middleham Park, but nevertheless, I owe an apology to those who, over the years, have been regularly following the progress of our small enterprise.

So let`s open the doors and start working again.  Where do we start ?  Romeo Brown of course.

When last we spoke, Romeo, with his first run for the Sue Smith yard, had looked all over the winner at Southwell on the 8th June `21, but whether it was a loose shoe, or he jarred himself at the 2nd last, no one was sure, but he went from near first to near last in the space of 200 yards.

Vet could see he was lame, but he was fine the following morning.

As it was the middle of summer, and Sues horses were all despatched to the moors for their summer break, she decided to follow suit with Romeo, and it was 162 days before we saw Romeo again at the races.

This time it was Hexham 17th Nov 21 and lo and behold our faith in Romeo was restored big style, as he  won a 2ml hcp hdl  by 14 lengths., prompting a comment from Sue that "weve got a nice happy horse there Richard”

This success was noticed not only by the handicapper, but the punters as well,  because in his next race at Wetherby on 4th Dec `21  in a 0-140  !!  hcp hdl, he was backed down to 2/1 fav in a field of nine decent horses.

He finished a staying on well 4th of 9 over the 2mls, in that class he needed further, as watching the       re run, it was plain for all to see.

Sue, and assistant trainer Joel, have done a brilliant job to get Romeo back with a smile on his face, and he should be well worth following this season.

EDGAR ALLAN POE   8yo by Zoffany    Our latest acquisition

We`re taking a bit of a punt here, but over the next 3 / 4 months, well find out if it was worthwhile.

Originally owned in Ireland by the Ballydoyle operation…Magnier, Smith and Tabor, this now 8yo was bought out of the Sales in 2017 and has since run 47 times in the UK on the FLAT...won SEVEN races, and placed 12 times.

McGoldrick Racing have now acquired a 50% share after we negotiated a deal with Mr Barker, (owned 50% equal shares with trainer when purchased at the Sales) which involved his firm belief that Edgar would jump a hurdle, and my belief that, if so, Sue Smith would be the right person to find out.

So hold your hats folks, and keep your eyes out for Edgar….exciting days ahead, especially as the Smith yard are telling me Edgar is schooling well,

Richard
