More frustration with another 2nd for Becky the Thatcher

becky the thatcher

Thirsk Friday 29th July 2016.

And so it turned out that the chosen race for our Becky to break her maiden tag, whilst it ticked all the right boxes for our filly, resulted in another frustrating runner up position for the third time in her career.

A Class 6 race….a Seller in anything other than name, so we had to be confident of success, but the lowly rated High on Light from the streetwise Tim Easterby yard had other ideas.

1

High On Light 9/4F 3 8-11 Tim Easterby 54 * *
Rachel Richardson3
Held up, headway to track leaders over 4f out, shaken up to lead over 1f out, soon clear, eased near finished (op 5/2 tchd 11/4 in a place)

2

5 Becky The Thatcher 5/2 3 9-7 Micky Hammond 61 * *
P J McDonald
Mid-division, headway and handy 3rd over 3f out, 2nd over 1f out, no chance with winner (op 11/4 tchd 3/1)

Racing off a mark of 54, the winner made it clear to the racing world, although I suspect the Easterby yard already knew, that this filly would improve for the step up in distance, which she most certainly did, as she won in a canter, beating our filly, rated 61 with Rachel Richardson sitting motionless in the saddle all the way up the straight, before easing her mount near the finish.

No complaints from this fella, well done to the Easterby team.

So we must press on in search of Beckys first win on the flat, before we consider hurdling options.

Perhaps more positive front running tactics will be discussed, as although she stays 1ml 4f well, her lack of gears has tended to find her out in the final stages of some of her races.
