It`s not often that a horse trained by Sue Smith has impressed her, and everyone within her yard to such an extent they are all looking forward to the start of the forthcoming NH season when Paddy O`Mahler , or Gavin as they`ve nicknamed in the yard, will be ready to begin his hurdling / Chasing career.
He has raced three times in Bumpers. Twice at Wetherby, where the potential was there for all to see, and once in a 2ml Bumper SPRINT at Hexham on 24th April when our 2ml 4f / 3ml Chaser in the making, was run off his feet, but still staying on well to finish fifth.
My big mistake was in thinking the hill at Hexham would suit Paddy because the rest would be tiring.
Not at the speed the front few came down the hill on that good ground Richard, then free wheeled up it!!! I hold my hand up!!
After a summer turned out grazing in a field, Paddy`s now back in light work in preparation for his hurdling debut in October.
He was schooled over hurdles at home towards the end of last season, and “he`s a natural” was the comment from his work rider.
As the above headline says, one only 10% share remaining.
