Pinerolo Wins a Thriller at Newcastle

becky the thatcher

HELLS BELLS !!!! Three wins from three races in less than a fortnight….how many Racing syndicates can match that statistic !!! I suspect NONE, and what a hell of an achievement …. for which my syndicate members will wholeheartedly agree to thank Sue, Harvey, Ryan Mania, Ryan Clavin, and all the staff at Craiglands Farm responsible for making possible this amazing three on the trot stat.

It is too soon to go into detail, because my head hasn`t properly cleared yet from the resultant celebrations after yesterdays “ride of the month” from Ryan Mania….quote from a professional horseracing journalist…not from me, but who would argue.

It was a brilliant ride given to a willing, genuine horse, who won an extended battle over the last two fences and up to the winning post. I can assure everyone that the Pipe horse was expected to do the business, because Edmund Kean was sent here on a mission to win, and by doing so, get his handicap mark raised to a level which would ensure his participation in one of the many Cheltenham Festival options for which he had been entered. But it didn`t work out for him, and fair play to jockey Tom Scudamore who offered no excuses, saying his horse just wasn`t good enough on the day.

Bucking the Trends jockey Dougie Costello must have thought he had the race won coming into the straight, and with Pinerolo, at this stage, last of the three protagonists, things weren`t looking too promising from where me and the assembled lads and lassies were standing. It didn`t look good. But slowly things started to change. Think it was the fourth from home where Pinerolo put in one more brilliant jump which catapulted him from third place into the lead….but BTT and EK fought back. Nevertheless we were still in there fighting …. enough for the Honourable member from Durham to scream “he`s gonna win this” And so the rollercoaster battle continued all the way up the straight…..

EK was the first to throw in the towel, leaving BTT and Pinerolo to battle out the finish. It was a tremendous nip and tuck battle to the last fence, which, more than likely was going to determine the outcome of the race…..and, showing real guts and determination, Ryan drove him into the fence, and got the response he was asking for. A mighty leap meant he lost NO momentum, he landed running, and grabbed that vital three quarters of a length lead, which proved to be the deciding factor, as he held on gamely up the run in to tremendous cheers of appreciation from many of the thousands in the crowd who had backed him, as well as syndicate members present who, unashamedly, were, with a degree of dignity, expressing their relief by going berserk !!!! including yours truly.

That’s enough for today. More reflections, plus where do we go now with FTP and Pinerolo will follow shortly, in the meantime, please remember this website, as previously mentioned will soon have a new look, so I would ask the two people who follow this website….or is it three ? to please be patient.
