ROMEO BROWN CHELTENHAM 13th APRIL 2022

So here we were again, fourteen years on, back at the scene of the greatest sporting thrill of my life, (see above) the magnificent Cheltenham racecourse, where Mister McGoldrick wrote his name in the history books at the Festival meeting of 2008.

This time however, after our much improved Romeo Brown, led from start to finish for a superb win at Kelso 26th March,in the £25k Cab on Target final, it was decided the Sue Smith horsebox, with Romeo on board, should turn right at the end of the driveway and head south to Cheltenham, for Romeo`s next race,  to lock horns with the big guns.

On a mild afternoon, when Cleeve Hill was looking more beautiful than ever, our fella arguably ran the best race of his career when making all the running and coming down the hill looking all over the winner until  the final hurdle, where he was headed, but, nevertheless, bravely stuck to his task to finish an honourable 3rd, beaten 2 lengths and a head by the winner ,  the well treated Bold Plan, who had won his two previous races, yet the handicapper in his infinite lack of wisdom, chose to raise him only 5 lbs in total for the two previous wins.

Bold Plan has subsequently been raised  a further 5lbs, after THREE wins on the trot at Market Rasen off 121  Kempton off 124  and now Cheltenham off 126  and is currently  rated at 131.

Romeo was upped 14lbs  for winning a moderate handicap at Hexham for Gods sake !!

Not moaning….just making a point.

In conclusion, Romeo continues to work well on the gallops so his season is not yet over.

Richard
