Starboard Watch Redcar Saturday 26th August 2017

Couldn`t resist the temptation to show the two photos below to illustrate our three lovely ladies representing McGoldrick Racing in the summer at Redcar last Saturday evening 26th Aug at Redcar, alongside four of my stalwart winter National Hunt members representing McGoldrick Racing in the winter at a freezing wet and windy afternoon at Edinburgh last season.

Despite the smiles on the faces of Caroline, Steph and Karen, it was disappointing to see Starboard Watch finish well down the field at Redcar after such a promising run two weeks earlier at the same track.

Perhaps it was a combination of the time of her latest race being four seconds faster than her previous race, together with the extra 18 lbs she carried  courtesy of the handicapper.

I was also surprised Joe Doyle, our jockey, set out to make all,  just like at Nottingham earlier in the season when Jim Crowley was on board, didn`t do as he was instructed, and James was not a happy man as a result.

Whereas when James Sullivan took the ride previously, he rode a patient waiting race, was plum last 2 furlongs out, yet stayed on to finish a decent 2nd to a 70+ rated horse.

In my opinion those tactics seem to suit her best.

Starboard Watch came out of the race ok, the handicapper has dropped her 4 lbs for her latest run as well, so next time, I`m sure we`ll be seeing an upward curve again on her performance graph.
