Step in the right direction for Becky

becky the thatcher

Catterick Wednesday 13th July 2016.

After a lack lustre start to the season for Becky the Thatcher, and indeed most of Micky Hammonds horses, it was good to watch Becky restore our faith in her ability when she ran a very pleasing race to finish 2nd to a much improved horse in John Quinns Wotabreeze.

Jockey PJ McDonald was more than happy with her, saying he was a bit miffed because he was just chopped for room approaching the turn into the straight, and had to drop back and then pull out wide in order to start her dash up the straight.

Becky then picked  up nicely and passed four horses in the last furlong or so, but the winner had flown.

Nevertheless, it was a much improved performance.

I just hope Mickys horses, with the sun on their backs, now start to follow Becky the Thatchers example, and the yard begins to fire in a few winners.

In which case, this will augur well for Beckys next race ….already decided… when we will be trying hard for her to lose her maided tag.

Finally, if anyone knows where the money came from which saw Beckys odds fall from early 12`s down to 6-1…and lower in places just before the off, please let me know.

It certainly wasn`t due to my £10 ew loyalty wager !!

Richard
