Charlies turn will not be long in coming

Sedgefield Thursday 25th Feb 2016 saw a return visit from Charlie Wingnut who was out to go one better than his commendable run in a 0-100 handicap here earlier in the month.

This time Sue chose a 0-120 hcp over the same 2ml 3f  distance, and this time Danny Cook was on board.

As instructed DC shot off in front, and even in this higher grade than his first race, he looked to have everything off the bridle with three furlongs to go.

But the 110 rated Almost Gemini eventually responded to jockey Henry Brooks urgings, and this proven stayer over further, got his second wind and it was clear coming down the hill into the straight we were resigned to being runner up once again.

A comparison between the times of Charlies two runs for us over this same Sedgefield 2ml 3f distance showed he was fifteen seconds faster the second time around….albeit on slightly better going.

Nevertheless we were pleased with DC`s comments that he`s not going to be a world beater over hurdles, but he should definitely pick up a race or two before the decision is made to send him Novice Chasing.

So, expect to see our Charlie out again soon, then maybe one more race before, hopefully, Sue will decide sometime in April to step him up into Chasing company, and the belief is he`s the stamp of a horse that will do much better over the larger obstacles.

Consequently our Charlie syndicate members are looking forward to watching him perform over the next couple of months….and so am I.
